Festival timetable

* UPDATE*: Given the current and predicted Coronavirus situation, we have decided to cancel this year’s Wray Scarecrow Festival. We are sorry to disappoint all of our supporters but plan to be back in 2021.

All dates correct at the time of publication and subject to change or cancellation in light of the current caronavirus situation:

2020:

To coincide with the 75th anniversay of VE Day, the 2020 theme is “Victory”

The schedule of events is still being established but here are some key dates:

Sat  2nd   May:  Scarecrow Festival starts, 10k Road Race (1.15pm), Local  history walks (10am, 12 noon, 2pm)

Sun 3rd   May:  Car boot (from 8am), Forest of Bowland Populaire (departs Institute 9am), Local  history walks (10am, 12 noon, 2pm)

Mon 4th – Thu 7th May:  Maypole dancing at the School (2.30pm)

Wed 6th May:  Book Launch: “Codebreaking Sisters – Our Secret War” (2.30pm) at the Bridge House Tearooms – Entry £10 includes a signed copy of their book

Thu 7th May:  Classic Bike Night at the Bridge House Tearooms (from 5pm)

Fri   8th   May:  Bank Holiday VE Day Bank Holiday Party, Fell Race, Giant Scarecrows Parade, Local  history walks (10am, 12 noon, 2pm), music at the George & Dragon

Sat  9th   May:  Junior football coaching, music at Bridge House Tea Rooms, Local  history walks (10am, 12 noon, 2pm)

Sun 10th May:  Wray Fair, Great Ball Race, Local  history walks (10am, 12 noon, 2pm)


2019:

The 2019 theme, chosen by the local school, is “Evolution: Extinct, Endangered, Existing”

Saturday 27th April – Monday 6th May 2019:

Saturday 27th April 2019:

  • 10k Road Race – open to all runners 15 years and older, starting ~1.15pm near Bobbin Mill *

Sunday 28th April 2019:

Monday 29th April – Friday 3rd May 2019:

Thursday 2nd May 2019:

  • Funfair starts (usually) – continues over the Bank Holiday weekend *
  • Classic Bike Night (at Bridge House Farm Tearooms from ~7pm)

Friday 3rd May 2019:

  • Giant Scarecrow Parade – starts Gars End ~6.30pm, ends at Bridge House Farm Tearooms at ~7pm
  • The Parade will be led by Batala Samba Reggae Band
  • Music will also be provided by DJ AMP and some special guests
  • Prize presentations and party with local bands, food and drink ~7pm onwards

Saturday 4th May 2019:

  • Music at the Bridge House Farm Tearooms featuring local acts
  • And … lots and lots of scarecrows

Sunday 5th May 2019:

  • Football coaching session and early competition rounds (entries closed) *** NEW ***
  • Music at the Bridge House Farm Tearooms featuring local acts and DJ AMP
  • And … lots and lots of scarecrows

Monday 6th May 2019:

The 2018 theme, chosen by the local school, is “Lights, Camera, Action!”

Saturday 28th April – Monday 7th May 2018:

Saturday 28th April 2018:

  • 10k Road Race – open to all runners, starting ~1.15pm near Bobbin Mill *

Sunday 29th April 2018:

Monday 30th April – Friday 4th May 2018:

  • Wray School’s maypole dancing (and more) ~1.30pm *

Thursday 3rd May 2018:

  • Funfair starts – continues over the weekend *

Friday 4th May 2018:

  • BBC Radio Lancashire will broadcast live from the Wray Institute (10am to 12 noon)
  • Giant Scarecrow Parade – starts Gars End ~6.30pm
  • Guinness World Record attempt: “Largest gathering of people dressed as scarecrows”
  • Parade ends at Bridge House Farm Tearooms
  • Music by “Blast Furness”
  • Prize presentations and party with local bands, food and drink ~7pm onwards

Saturday 5th May 2018:

  • Music at the Bridge House Farm Tearooms
  • And … lots and lots of scarecrows

Sunday 6th May 2018:

  • Soap Box Derby – near Bobbin Mill from ~12 noon
  • Ball Race – near Flood Gardens after Soap Box Derby ~4pm
  • Busk Stop (buskers at the flood gardens on Main Street)
  • Vintage Vehicles – at Bridge House Farm tearooms *
  • Vintage Fair – at Bridge House Farm tearooms *

Monday 7th May 2018:

  • Fell race – starts at the Institute ~11.30am *
  • Wray Fair – from ~11am to ~4pm on school fields

Note that there will be no Car Boot Sale this year!
